Postdoc Profile: Thierry Dubroca
Hometown: La Rochelle, France
Degrees: B.S. in Physics from Polytechnic¬ Institute of Grenoble, France; M.S. in Physics from Joseph Fourier University, Grenoble, France; M.S in Materials Science Engineering, M.S. in Management, and Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Florida
Thierry Dubroca has been at the University of Florida since 2000, first as an exchange student in a master's program and Ph.D. student and finally as a postdoctoral associate in materials science and engineering. In the area of explosive detection, Thierry studies the optical properties of explosives, and then with his business degree he works to commercialize the technology developed at UF.
In addition to being a postdoctoral associate, Thierry is also the CEO of Delta R Detection, which is a UF company that works to develop and commercialize and sell an explosive detection system which instantly, reliably, and inexpensively detects the presence of TNT and other explosives simply by shining ultraviolet light on an object that may potentially have traces of explosives. Outside of the lab, Thierry is involved on campus in the postdoctoral advisory committee, and is a founding member of the Gainesville Rugby Club, which he is still active in. He enjoys traveling home to France and touring other countries while he is there, as well as traveling the United States for business and conferences about the technology he develops.
After completing his work with Delta R Detection, and possibly other experience, Thierry hopes to become a professor.
