Fall 2019 Daily Writing Boot-camp
The secret to writing is writing.

Applications due by August 16, and will be reviewed by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs & UF Writing Program Staff on a rolling basis. Participants will be notified by August 23rd.

What to Expect

This program will help participants:

Get started -- or restarted -- on writing

Build a daily writing habit

Experiment with strategies, such as peer accountability, to overcome challenges to writing productivity

Participants in this program will:

Establish and share writing goals

Participate in a “Getting Started” workshop through the UF Writing Program

Commit to writing for 25 minutes / work-day (M-F) followed by 5 minutes contributing toward peer accountability in program Slack workspace (total: 30 minutes a day, M-F)

Receive feedback and encouragement from peers and coaches.

Learn strategies for effective peer review, and work a peer review partner

Minimum time commitment*

30 minutes a day, M-F

Getting Started workshop – 2 hrs; Tuesday afternoon, September 3rd

Essentials of Peer Review Workshop – Up to 4 hrs. Tuesday afternoon, September 24th

*If you are unable to meet these time commitments, but still want to begin employing peer accountability to achieve your writing goals, stay tuned for Fall 2019 Writing Place Retreats. Writing Place Retreats will provide a quite space to sit and write in the company of peers and will be open to all UF Postdocs.  Three Writing Place Retreats will be scheduled for Fall 2019. Coffee and light snacks will be provided.

Program Schedule

Activities in addtion to daily writing: 

Week 0 – Aug. 26-30 Participants submit Bios with headshots & finalized writing goals.
Week 1 – Sept. 3-6 Boot-camp Begins. Getting Started Workshop (2hr) – with  Dr. Mickey Schafer, UF Writing Program
Week 2 – Sept. 9-13 Just keep writing!
Week 3 – Sept. 16-20 Writing Place Retreat 1 (optional, open to all UF Postdocs)
Week 4 – Sept. 23-27 Essentials of Peer Review Workshop (3-4hr) – with Dr. Mickey Schafer, UF Writing Program
Week 5 – Sept. 30 – Oct. 3 Just keep writing!
Week 6 – Oct. 7-11 Writing Place Retreat 2 (optional, open to all UF Postdocs)
Week 7 – Oct. 14-18 Just keep writing!
Week 8 – Oct. 21-25 Meet (in person or remote) with peer review partner
Week 9 – Oct. 28 – Nov. 1 Writing Place Retreat 3 (optional, open to all UF Postdocs). Boot-camp ends.
Week 10 – Date TBD Closing Reception for participants and their PI's - with Dr. Chris Hass, Assoc. Provost Faculty Affairs
