Tax Information for Postdocs
Free Tax Prep Software: GLACIER Tax Prep (GTP)
The UF International Center provides international students and scholars with a free international tax return preparation program known as GTP. It is made available each spring in the beginning of February through a secure portal.
You are not eligible to file as a resident unless you have been in the US at least 5 years.
An email is sent each spring from the UF International Center to the exchange visitor community about gaining access to the software.
VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance):
VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is the free income tax assistance for those making $52,000 or less in 2013. Go to the IRS site (http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Free-Tax-Return-Preparation-for-You-by-Volunteers) search Gainesville to find a VITA site near you.
VITA will be offered from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday starting the week of Jan. 26th and ending the week of April 13th (with no sessions during the week of the College of Law’s spring break March 2-6). The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program utilizes the Student Organization room, located in Room 209 Bruton-Geer Hall. The doors to access Bruton-Geer near Law Admissions will remain open until 9 p.m. on those nights.
Postdoc feedback has been positive re: assistance from the VITA office with 1099 forms and NRSA income determination.

The Internal Revenue Service and its private-sector partners are again making Free File available to anyone with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $58,000 or less in 2013. Many taxpayers can have free use of helpful tax preparation software and free electronic filing of their federal tax returns.
