Fellowships are awarded to aid the fellow in the pursuit of study or research, and no services are expected. Fellows are not considered employees and are not eligible for UF employee benefits. |
Professional Development |

Leave |
“Post Doc Leave” may be used for vacation, sickness, or injury. The accrual rate is 5 hours bi-weekly, and is prorated based on FTE (full-time equivalent). The maximum accrual is 352 hours. Post Doc Leave has no cash value and is not transferable to other positions at UF. Postdoc Associates should follow the OPS guidelines for holidays and the holiday closing period. |
Postdoctoral fellows do not receive formal leave benefits such as paid time off (PTO), sick leave, or vacation time. However, postdoctoral fellows are expected to work closely with their faculty mentor or supervisor to coordinate any time away from their fellowship duties. |
Salary |
Postdoc minimum pay is $58,656 for 1.0 FTE (effective January 1, 2025). Postdocs are classified as exempt employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and are therefore not subject to minimum wage and overtime provisions. Salary may be prorated from the minimum 1.0 FTE salary of $58,656 until it reaches the minimum of $43,888. * |
The stipend for postdoctoral fellows is determined by the terms of the fellowship award and may vary depending on the funding agency or sponsor. |
Taxes |
Taxes are withheld from paychecks. |
Taxes are not withheld from stipend, but may be owed. You are responsible for determining whether your award, in whole or part, is to be included in gross income, and for paying appropriate taxes on it. |

Benefits Deadline |
Enrollment must be completed within 60 days of the employee’s date of hire. Changes cannot be made until the next open enrollment period (mid-october) to take effect on Jan. 1 of the following year. Outside of this period, changes are only allowed within 60 days of a qualifying event. |
Open enrollment is the first 30 days of each semester, starting on the first day of classes. Exceptions exist for those who experience a qualifying event — such as a loss of other coverage. In those cases, the 30-day window begins on the date that you experienced the event. |
